Ms. Leah’s Sweet Potato Casserole
This sweet potato casserole is the most delicious combination of a silky sweet potato mixture and a crunchy praline topping. Together they provide a wonderful contrast of tastes and textures that will make your mouth sing!
This sweet potato casserole is delicious for absolutely any dinner. But I especially love making it to go along with special holiday gatherings. It has long been a favorite of ours and everyone who gathers with us loves it too!

There’s nothing fancy about the dish itself, but it is just downhome goodness! Start with simple ingredients and you can have this recipe ready to go in the oven in less than 30 minutes!
What can I use to mix this?
Like most potato recipes, you could simply hand mash your cooked sweet potatoes and stir up all the other ingredients with them by hand as well. But it you want a really smooth and creamy dish without a lot of work, use a mixer or a food processor. I use my stand mixer and just dump sweet potatoes, sugar, milk, butter, eggs and vanilla into it. Then I let it do the hard work for me and in just a minute or two, this declicious filling is ready to go in the casserole dish!
Can I change the topping?
Yes, you can really top this with whatever you like. If you prefer marshmallows instead of the praline topping, just bake the dish by itself until the last little bit of baking time. Then add your marshmallows to the top and let them get a little brown! That would be yummy too! You could even make this without a topping and it would still be a wonderfully delicious sweet potato dish!

Mary Katherine,
I’m so glad I came across all the delicious recipe you have put together. I’m certainly trying the sweet potatoes casserole and green beans. I know they’ll be a hit. Thanks for sharing. Keep it up!
Oh wonderful! Those are both great sides. We had them both on our Thanksgiving table last year. 🙂
This was so easy to make and so delicious! I assembled it the day before Thanksgiving and then popped it in the oven day of, which was perfect. The only problem I ran into is that the topping was very thick and did not pour – I had to plop it around. Because of that, I ended up doubling the topping to be able to cover the whole dish. Not sure what happened but more topping was definitely not a bad thing! Thanks for sharing this recipe!
So glad you enjoyed it! It’s definitely one of our favorites!
