Country Apple Dumplings
These apple dumplings give you a wonderful taste of home without all the hard work! Their sweet and simple goodness will be a delicious treat for all to have as a perfect dessert to end any meal!
Have you ever had a homemade apple dumpling? If you have, you know how delicious they are! But you may have never made them yourself because let’s face it, they are a lot of work! It can also be a pretty large serving if you made them the traditional way, using a whole apple. Of course, you can always share them with a friend. But these apple dumplings give you an even better solution. Each apple dumpling is the perfect size for one, and you can have a whole pan of them to go in the oven with only about 15 minutes prep time!

Even though they are so simple to make because of some shortcuts we use in this recipe, you are still going to have a wonderful delicous taste in every single bite! They will remind you of homemade dumplings you’ve had in the past, and they will be a smashing hit with any crowd you share them with!
What kind of apple should I use?
Some of the best baking apples are Granny Smith, so you could definitely use these. They have a little tartness to them, so it balances out well in a dessert with added sugar. They also hold up well with cooking or baking, so that’s an added plus! However, I have made these dumplings so many times and I honestly just use whatever apples I have on hand. They are perfect every time and so yummy no matter what kind of apple you use. Another favorite of mine in recent years is Honeycrisp apples. They have a little more sweetness to them than Granny Smith. So keep this in mind when choosing your apples – whether you like the tart or the sweet taste.
Do these store well?
I’ve never actually frozen these apple dumplings. But I think you could bake them, let them cool, wrap well and freeze. When ready to use, I would probably let them thaw, then leave them covered to heat up for 10-15 minutes in the oven and then uncover for just the last few minutes (maybe 5-10). These always get eaten right away in my house, so let me know if you try to freeze them I’d love to hear your personal results!
Country Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
- 2 medium apples Granny Smit or Honeycrisp work well, but can use whatever you have.
- 2 cans crescent rolls
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 1-2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 7.5 oz. can Mountain Dew
Instructions
- Slice each apple into 8 pieces and core and peel.
- Wrap each apple slice in one crescent roll, laying it in the larger side of the triangle, sealing edges.
- Lay them all in a greased 9×13 pan.
- Melt butter in saucepan & then stir in sugar and cinnamon.
- Once this is mixed together, pour over the apple dumplings, trying to cover as much of the surface of each dumpling as possible.
- Pour the Mountain Dew in the pan around the apple dumplings, trying not to pour over them so you do not wash the butter/sugar mixture off.
- Bake at 350 for 34-40 minutes.
