This policy explains what information Mary Katherine’s Table collects when you visit marykatherinestable.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We have tried to write it in plain English instead of legal fog.
Who we are
Mary Katherine’s Table is a home cooking website and YouTube channel. Our website address is https://marykatherinestable.com. You can reach us any time at mk@marykatherinestable.com.
Comments
When you leave a comment on a recipe, we collect what you type in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, which help us catch spam. Spam filtering is handled by Antispam Bee, which processes this data on our own server rather than sending it to a third party.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see whether you use it. Their privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible publicly alongside your comment.
Approved comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve your follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a queue.
Recipe submissions and contact forms
When you send us a recipe through the recipe submission form, or write to us through a contact form, we collect the information you enter, such as your name, email address, and the recipe or message itself. We store these submissions on our website so we can read them, reply to you, and consider your recipe for a future video.
If we feature your recipe, we will contact you first. We do not publish your email address.
Email newsletter
If you join our newsletter, we store your email address and any name you give us, along with basic engagement information such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. We use this to send you recipes and updates and to understand what our readers actually want more of.
Our email is handled by Kit (formerly ConvertKit) and by FluentCRM, which runs on our own website. We never sell or rent your email address to anyone. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time with no hard feelings.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which recipes people read, how visitors find us, and what is or is not working on the site. This is reported to us in aggregate, meaning we see patterns and totals rather than a profile of you personally. Google’s privacy policy is at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Affiliate links and click tracking
This site contains affiliate links, which are explained in full on our Affiliate Disclosure page. When you click certain outbound links, we record the click, including your IP address and general location, so we know which recommendations are useful.
Retailers such as Amazon may also place a cookie in your browser to credit us for a purchase. That cookie is set by them, governed by their privacy policy, and typically expires within 24 hours.
Embedded content from other websites
Recipe posts often include embedded YouTube videos. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly. YouTube and other embedded services may collect data about you, use cookies, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking it if you have an account and are logged in.
Media
If you upload an image to this website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data included, since other visitors can download and extract that data.
Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make this site run, such as our web host, our email platform, and our analytics provider, and only so they can perform those services for us. We may also disclose information if required by law.
How long we keep your information
Comments are kept indefinitely. Form submissions are kept as long as they are useful to us. Newsletter information is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you register on this site, we store the profile information you provide, and you can view, edit, or delete it at any time.
Your rights over your information
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or state privacy laws. To make any of these requests, email mk@marykatherinestable.com and we will take care of it.
Note that we may need to keep certain information for legal or administrative reasons.
Children
This website is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
